Our Curriculum

West End Scott Street Kindergarten provides a Queensland government approved program.

Research has proven that young children learn most effectively through a play-oriented approach.

We recognise the value and richness of play as a catalyst for children’s learning.

We use children’s interests, natural curiosity and desire to make sense of the world to motivate them to become involved in learning activities.

LISTENING AND LEARNING TOGETHER: THE C&K CURRICULUM APPROACH

Early childhood curriculum has been crafted by C&K educators, children and families for over 110 years. Our curriculum acknowledges that children do not learn in isolation. It is a collaborative process and acknowledges the important role that children, educators, parents and the physical environment play in a child’s learning.

THE NATIONAL QUALITY STANDARD

The National Quality Standard (NQS) supports services to provide the best possible level of education and care by being clear about the factors that best support a child’s learning and development. The NQS gives services and families confidence in understanding what distinguishes a quality service. It is has seven quality areas:

  • Educational program and practice
  • Children’s health and safety
  • Physical environment
  • Staffing arrangements
  • Relationships with children
  • Collaborative partnerships with families and communities
  • Leadership and service management.

The West End Scott Street Community Kindergarten assessment and rating outcomes and recommendations are displayed in our foyer. In 2019 we achieved an Exceeding rating.
